Advocacy is the Medical Association’s primary focus.  By ensuring pro-medicine legislation and regulations are passed, delivery of medical care improves for patients and strengthens the practice of medicine for physicians.

Effective advocacy requires three elements:
    1. Professional lobbyists constantly engaged with elected officials monitoring and influencing legislation and regulations
    2. Strong “Grassroots” are key to successful advocacy.  Very Influential Physicians (VIP) volunteer to contact elected officials on important legislation and provide opinions from “back home”
    3. A well-funded ALAPAC (Alabama Medical PAC), a nonpartisan voluntary political action committee, to which Alabama physicians contribute funds to aid in the election of candidates for state office who best represent the professional needs of physicians
