The Medical Foundation

The Medical Foundation of Alabama was established in 1982 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of furthering the image of medicine through financial support for health education programs and projects that ultimately benefit the patients of Alabama's physicians. The Foundation receives revenues from direct contributions by physician members as donations or memorials; and sales of a book sponsored through the Foundation entitled, A History of Medicine in Alabama.

The Medical Foundation is divided into these basic areas:
    - The General Fund supports activities such as educational activities that provide physicians opportunities for continuing medical education; AMASA grant for health and legislative projects, and leadership training; and disaster assistance.

    - Three areas of the fund support Annual Session – the Ellann McCrory, MD, Leadership Lecture, the annual awards ceremony (Burleson Awards) and the Burleson Scholarship that provides funding for young physician leaders to attend the meeting.

    - The AMASA Medical Student Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to rising medical school seniors to help with expenses relating to interviewing for residencies and other additional expenses incurred in the senior year of medical school.  Applications are being accepted for the 2017 AMASA Medical Student Scholarship
